A New Nation : 16 February 2004

We have arrived in Hong Kong!
We've only been here a day, but so far it has been great. What an extraordinary place! We took a ferry tour of the harbour, and took the Peak Tram up to the top of the hill just behind the Central district. Both provided great views of the city. Between that and wandering around both Central and Wan Chai, where our hotel is, we've seen just a small, but very neat bit of the city.
Tomorrow we begin the process of getting our visas for the mainland, and planning out the next couple weeks as we tour both Hong Kong and the rest of the country.
Funny to think that just a few days ago we were in Honolulu. In case you hadn't heard, we took a one week break and flew from Sydney back to Honolulu. The trip was both to visit family (especially the kids), and to prepare a bit more for the coming trip, making phone calls to banks and work. It was a fast trip, but it was nice to take a break.
The downside was the trip back. We flew from Honolulu to Sydney, then on the next day from Sydney to Singapore to Hong Kong. We will both say, however, that Singapore Airlines is an incredible airline. If you ever need to fly halfway around the world, we both would recommend them.
