Halloween : 1 November 2003 |
Who would have thought that Waikiki was the place to be for Halloween? The crowds walking up and down the strip were out of control. I'd never seen so many Japanese tourists dressed up as nurses in one place. Actually, it was fascinating to see how many people dressed up for the holiday here. And it wasn't just the teenagers trying to score teenagers with skimpy outfits. Even the old couples were all dressed up in great matching outfits. Of course, the best of all were the outfits we got for Andrea-Marie and Graeme. Andrea was Cinderella, and Graeme was a pirate. They were both a little tired, but we managed to get them tons of candy. It wasn't exactly trick or treating (they're both way too young to do that). But they have this giant party for the kids at a park over here, and there's this wall, through which they pass out tons of candy. They also had bouncy castles, and a haunted house, and cockroach races, and a few other weird things. Though a good time was had by all, I think a couple more years will make it much more fun for the kids. Andrea and I didn't get to dress up. It's hard to carry a full blown costume with you when you have a single bag to carry all of your clothes for a year. So we went as tourists. It was the first year that either of us hadn't dressed up in memory. How sad. But we have the master plan for next year, when we are back in civilization... Pootie Tang and Biggie Shorty!
